About Car Dealership Guy
Car Dealership Guy (CDG) is the leading media platform in auto retail, reaching millions of automotive and industry professionals every month through our podcasts, live shows, newsletters, and social channels.
What began as a single voice demystifying the car business has grown into the most trusted source of intelligence and influence in automotive retail. Dealers, vendors, and OEM leaders rely on CDG for high-signal content, real-time market intelligence, and sharp industry analysis that cut through the noise and help them win in a rapidly changing market.
Today, CDG is more than a media company—it’s a community and a force shaping the future of auto retail. By combining reach, credibility, and relentless execution, we’re building the industry’s go-to platform for influence, insight, and connection.
The Role
We’re hiring an Assistant Editor to help scale CDG News—the editorial arm of our media network. This role blends editing, writing, and contributor management:
- Editorial Support (25%) — sharpening content, managing contributors, and tightening operations.
- Execution (50%) — writing, editing, and publishing high-signal content across newsletters, breaking news, and social channels.
- Growth & Scale (25%) — driving new editorial initiatives, testing ideas, and helping define where CDG goes next.
This role is fast-paced, detail-driven, and central to maintaining the accuracy, speed, and authority of CDG’s editorial output.
Responsibilities
Editorial Support (25%)
- Proofread and fact-check news and analysis with precision, catching errors and gaps before they reach thousands of readers.
- Manage the CDG Insights inbox and contributor communications, ensuring timely responses and smooth coordination.
- Scout, vet, and onboard new freelance contributors, maintaining a high editorial bar while growing our bench of voices.
- Spot workflow bottlenecks, propose fixes, and strengthen editorial operations for speed and reliability.
Execution (50%)
- Write, edit, and publish newsletters, real-time news stories, and social posts that shape the daily conversation in auto retail.
- Pitch stories and trends with authority; assign work to freelancers and chase down leads that matter.
- Monitor breaking news and industry developments to keep CDG consistently ahead of the curve.
- Collaborate with editorial leadership to maintain speed, tone, and consistency across all CDG platforms.
Growth & Scale (25%)
- Drive new editorial initiatives and test experimental ideas that expand CDG’s voice and footprint.
- Take ownership of special projects and evolve content workflows to support scale.
- Track and analyze performance data, using insights to sharpen editorial strategy and audience engagement.
- Think beyond today’s cycle—contribute ideas and execution that shape where CDG goes next.
Who This Role Is For
- Detail hawks — you can spot a typo, a missing stat, or a shaky claim instantly, and you take pride in tightening copy.
- Planners and organizers — you like running point on workflows, keeping contributors on track, and making sure the trains run on time.
- News junkiesand chronically online people — you stay plugged into the industry, thrive in fast-moving cycles, and can quickly turn complex updates into sharp takes.
- Builders — you want to be part of scaling a fast-growing media company, testing new ideas, and shaping what editorial looks like tomorrow.
- Communicators — clear, concise writing is your default; you know how to strip away fluff and get to signal.
Who This Role Is Not For
- Generalists who don’t know auto retail — if you don’t understand dealer economics, franchise dynamics, or market fundamentals, this won’t be a fit.
- People who need a slow pace — this role lives in breaking news, tight deadlines, and constant iteration.
- Pure writers — if you only want to write and avoid operations, editing, or contributor management, this isn’t the right seat.
- Headline skimmers — you’ll need to analyze, fact-check, and connect dots, not just repackage surface-level news.
- Passengers — this is for someone who wants ownership and accountability, not just a checklist of tasks.
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of editorial experience in the automotive retail industry.
- Strong knowledge of dealer economics, franchise operations, and market fundamentals.
- Commitment to journalistic ethics and accuracy.
- Concise, direct communicator with sharp editing instincts.
