About Plug
Plug is the leading marketplace for used electric vehicles, built from the ground up for how EVs are actually valued and moved. Led by former Tesla executives and backed by a $20M Series A from Lightspeed, we've facilitated nearly $100M in EV sales since launch. We buy, consign, and auction vehicles across consumers, dealers, and commercial partners through a platform built exclusively for EVs. With more than 1.1 million lease returns expected in the next three years alone, the used EV market is scaling fast. We're building the infrastructure to lead it. The Opportunity
This is the role that keeps Plug’s marketplace running—and makes it faster, smarter, and more scalable. As Head of Marketplace Operations, you own the entire vehicle lifecycle: onboarding, listing, auctions, payments, title, transportation, and arbitrations. Every car that moves through Plug touches your team.
You’ll inherit a strong team across commercial operations, payments, title, consumer operations, transportation, and project management — the foundation is there. Your job is to sharpen it: tighten the operating cadences, build the reporting infrastructure, hold the team accountable to outcomes, and make sure we can onboard the next wave of commercial partners without the operation buckling under the weight. A critical component of your role will be ensuring our operations can support 10x scale over the next 18 months, leveraging AI, collaborating closely with product and engineering teams, and making strategic hires to support the existing organization.
You’ll report directly to the SVP of Revenue & Operations and serve as the operational decision-maker across every function you lead.
What You'll Do
End-to-End Marketplace Operations
- Own the full vehicle lifecycle across Plug's marketplace, including dealer onboarding, vehicle listing, auctions, invoicing, payments, title, transportation, and arbitrations.
- Ensure each operational vertical runs with clear SLAs, documented processes, and consistent execution standards.
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and risks across the operation and drive solutions that improve speed, accuracy, and partner experience.
- Serve as the operational decision-maker across all verticals, balancing short-term execution needs with long-term scalability.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and manage a team of direct reports spanning partner operations, operations enablement, arbitrations, title, and transportation.
- Set clear expectations, define goals, and hold the team accountable to outcomes across every function.
- Coach and develop managers and senior ICs, creating growth paths that retain top talent and build organizational depth.
- Foster a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement within the operations team.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, and RevOps to translate operational needs into systems, tooling, and automation priorities.
- Collaborate with Finance on invoicing workflows, payment reconciliation, and revenue operations alignment.
- Work with Legal and Compliance to ensure title, arbitration, and transaction processes meet regulatory requirements across all 50 states.
- Serve as the primary operations stakeholder in company-level planning, bringing data and operational context to strategic decisions.
Process Excellence and Scalability
- Build and maintain the operational playbook for Plug's marketplace, ensuring that every workflow is documented, measurable, and repeatable.
- Define and track KPIs across all operational verticals, using data to drive accountability and surface improvement opportunities.
- Lead process design and iteration as Plug scales into new markets, new vehicle segments, and new partner types.
- Drive the right balance between standardization and flexibility, ensuring the operation can adapt without breaking.
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years of experience in operations, marketplace operations, or a related field, with at least 5 years managing teams of managers or senior individual contributors.
- Proven track record of owning and scaling multi-vertical operations in a high-growth or startup environment.
- Deep understanding of vehicle remarketing, wholesale auctions, or automotive logistics (title, transport, arbitrations) is strongly preferred.
- Experience building operational processes from the ground up and iterating on them as the business scales.
- Strong cross-functional instincts. You know how to partner with Product, Engineering, and Finance without needing to own those functions.
- Data-driven decision-making skills. You use metrics to manage, not just to report.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate operational complexity into clear updates for senior leadership.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity. You don't wait for perfect information to move forward.
Nice to Have
- Experience with EV-specific wholesale or retail operations.
- Familiarity with multi-state title and registration workflows.
- Background in marketplace or platform businesses (two-sided or multi-sided).
- Experience working with third-party logistics providers, carriers, or transportation brokers.
- Exposure to arbitration or dispute resolution processes in automotive or marketplace contexts.
