This is not your typical Used Car Manager position. We’re on the hunt for an exceptional automotive leader! A people-first team builder, acquisition aficionado, and inventory management mastermind. Someone who wants to...
... get their life back with a Mon-Fri schedule
... drive growth for a 4.9 Google rated independent dealership
... build the best VBC around, and beat Carmax and Carvana in used vehicle buying in our market
... live in one of the most “family friendly” and “close to adventure” places in the US!
We’re searching for the rare combination of an experienced automotive leader with a passion for client experience and a people-first leadership approach. Used car acquisition has changed more than teenage pants styles in the last five years, so you don’t need decades of experience—but you do need to be on the leading edge of sourcing strategies, inventory management, and be capable of scaling a regional/multi-state acquisition team.
We know how things typically run in the industry: high pressure, high turnover, long hours, and low integrity. If you’re looking for a change—where you get to build out your own division, take great care of clients, and even better care of your team—this might just be the opportunity you didn't know you were looking for.
As our Inventory Director, you’ll be leading and growing a high caliber team and driving the growth of innovative strategies in vehicle acquisition and inventory management. We’re looking for a hands-on leader who’s ready to step beyond traditional roles and strategies, to help take our team and business to the next level.
WHO WE ARE
As 4x winners of Idaho's Best and Best of the Treasure Valley, Maverick is a car dealership that doesn’t act like one. Our customers feel the difference, rating us 4.9 out of 5 on Google in over 1,800 reviews! They love the experience they have and keep coming back and bringing their friends. As a result, we’ve continued growing since 2008. We first expanded in 2009, again in 2011, built an awesome new facility in 2017, and just expanded our service & recon operation. We love what we do and constantly hear feedback from our customers, like this:
“Without a doubt the most revolutionary dealership I’ve ever had the pleasure to deal with. I wanted to take the time to fully communicate how incredible these people really are.” — Google Review
And…
“AMAZING… How incredibly lucky we were to find the car of my dreams at a dealership that breaks all standards. The finest car dealer I have ever had the privilege to work with.” — Google Review
THE OPPORTUNITY
We just moved our reconditioning operation off-site, substantially increasing our capacity to move more volume without sacrificing quality. We also have more room on site for retail inventory (and we still have more room to grow), so it’s time to ramp things up through innovative acquisition strategies, ensuring we secure more of the best vehicles available. Our previous Inventory Manager of 11 years is taking on a different role, and with these increased capacities, we're excited to grow this part of the company even further.
Here’s a few of the areas you will be leading as likely parts of our acquisition strategy; the right person will bring even more, and ways to elevate these areas further:
- Build out the best vehicle buying center (VBC) in the valley - known throughout Boise and beyond as the best place to go when you have a well-cared for car to sell outright. We’re best in class for customer experience, but we haven’t applied this to inbound vehicle buying—yet. We know we can win in this arena, and we’re looking for an innovative leader to lead the way.
- Increasing purchases from the service drive and trades - We just expanded our retail service capacity, so we’ll have more awesome vehicles rolling through service, along with increasing sales volume. Time to help more of our clients know their options, and accurate values, for selling outright and/or upgrading.
- Growing our killer consignment program - We already own the vehicle consignment game in Boise, with the best program and the best reputation—time to get the word out to expand this further.
- Outbound private party buying - we have a unique and effective approach to outbound buying. Now we need to scale it up in Boise and other surrounding markets.
This position also involves active and hands-on inventory management—your team owns the cars from start to finish:
- Ensuring all remotely purchased vehicles are thoroughly evaluated upon arrival - Did we get what we expected?
- Ensuring the right things are repaired to uphold our standards, and the right upgrades are made (Level kit, wheels/tires, tint, etc) to maximize the value and appeal of each vehicle.
- Monitor pricing, turn times, and wholesaling - keep the flywheel turning with smart decisions that balance inventory flow and profitability.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We know it’s rare, but we’re looking for that people-first leader, with loads of industry experience—but who’s not stuck in the box with everyone else. We’re talking about a visionary leader who thrives on innovation, coaching, and problem-solving. Someone with proven success in growing vehicle acquisition and mastering inventory management—but more importantly, someone who is passionate about developing others and driving team success. This isn’t just a position for a manager—it’s a chance to build and lead a team that sets the gold standard in the industry.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- A proven history of advancement in automotive management, with a demonstrated ability to drive high performance—without driving your team into the ground.
- Extensive experience building and scaling creative / non -traditional acquisition programs and processes. Experience in building regional teams would be a cherry on top!
- A sharp eye for details and logistics, with the ability to optimize inventory processes and enhance efficiency.
If this is you, and you’re passionate about shaping the future of vehicle acquisition, and finding the right company to do it with, we want to hear from you. We hope you’ll join us as we continue to grow and do awesome things, in the sometimes 'not-so-awesome' auto industry.
