Geometry Dash was created by Robert Topala, a solo developer better known as RobTop. Inspired by his love of music and minimalist design, Topala wanted to create a rhythm-based game where players would navigate obstacles while staying in sync with a soundtrack. The concept was straightforward: tap the screen to make a cube jump over spikes, pits, and moving platforms.
The game was initially released for iOS and Android in 2013, followed by a PC version on Steam in 2014. Despite limited marketing, Geometry Dash quickly gained traction thanks to its addictive gameplay loop and the popularity of YouTube gaming videos. Influencers and streamers showcased the game’s punishing but fair difficulty, sparking widespread interest.
